The Union Tribune reports that a small bobcat killed two chickens in Leucadia. The local woman found the cat trapped inside the large chicken coop alongside her home, which abuts a ravine.
She said the bobcat probably weighed 25 pounds. “It wasn’t aggressive, it was as scared as we were. That was one scared cat.”
The home is located in the Fox Point neighborhood, north of Leucadia Boulevard and east of Saxony Road.
Dawn Danielson, director of the county’s Department of Animal Services, said bobcats are “all over the county.” They are not much bigger than a house cat and are very timid, she said.
“It’s amazing that anybody even sees them. They’re very, very shy animals,” she said.
