The San Diego Union-Tribune reports, “Multiple reports from fisherman and others who saw a shark off the Oceanside pier led officials to shut down two miles of coastline Friday.
The calls about the sightings came into city lifeguards shortly after 12:30 p.m., Lifeguard Lt. Gregory Trebbe said.
Although there’s no known video footage of the shark, people who saw it said it was about 12-feet long and was swimming roughly 100 yards off the shore on the south side of the pier, he said.
The report led Oceanside lifeguards to clear people out of the water stretching from about a mile north of the pier to about a mile south of it — roughly from the north jetty south to Oceanside Boulevard.”
