Headline – NO MORE SHOWERS – KIDS EVERYWHERE CHEER!
Sixty-three beaches in California will have outside showers turned off to save water. In San Diego County, beaches affected by the change are Carlsbad State Beach, Cardiff State Beach, San Elijo State Beach, San Onofre State Beach, Silver Strand State Beach, South Carlsbad State Beach, and Torrey Pines State Beach.
First, to save the anguish of getting sand all over your car, the shame of ‘looking grubby in public,’ the embarrassment of screaming at public officials and worse, not taking a shower in arid protest – Moonlight State Beach in Encinitas, though owned by the state, is operated by the city and not affected by the new restriction. You can put down your water squirt gun…
Also note that, while most city beaches across the county still have rinse stations, the city of Del Mar recently decided to shut down most beach showers.
Do you ever feel like this after a day at your favorite California State Park?
Everybody looks forward to enjoying that “Flashdance” shower after a day at the beach…
Well, say goodbye to that; as California State Parks officials announce that effective starting Wednesday, all outdoor ‘rinse’ showers at all state beaches are being shut off as a way to conserve water during the drought.
This water-saving move is designed to save up to 18 million gallons of water each year. Note that the shower restriction will not apply to indoor campground showers. Expect the use of indoor campground showers to increase dramatically.
How To Beat The “No More Showers At State Beaches” Water Ban
Instead of rinsing off, beachgoers now have few options:
* Use a towel to brush sand away
* Take an empty plastic jug, spray paint it black to warm it up and use that
* Go higher tech with an inexpensive solar shower kit. This is a full 5*, top-rated (91% 5*’s) solar shower.
This is a full 5 gallon model – big enough for the full family, heated by the sun to stay warm, you can use it for camping or just at home so you can rinse off before you go into your home.
As a bonus, if you want to go totally eco-friendly, you can fill it with sea water when you arrive at the beach, let the sun heat it, then get the sand off of you with the ocean water. You can then complete your total cleansing experience with a second solar shower water bag already heating so you can rinse off in front of your garage.
